      (1898–1989), US artist and photographer; born in Lithuania; full name Benjamin Shahn. His paintings such as “The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti” (1931–32) are devoted to political and social themes. He was also a photographer for the US Farm Security Administration during the 1930s.
